Brief History of the Citadel of Deliverance Church of God in Christ

Bishop Linwood & First Lady Stephanie Dillard planted Citadel of Deliverance Church of God in Christ with two families in April 2001 under the name Greater Dimensions Ministry. This core-group was developed as a Wednesday Evening Bible Studies and Prayer meetings at a Holiday Inn-East Memphis hotel. The first Worship Service was held on July 1, 2001, at the Pickering Memorial Community Center in Germantown, Tennessee. At this inaugural service, more than 20 persons united with the church, and the spiritual and numerical growth has continued from that day. In October 2002, the congregation acquired 4 acres of property in Southeast Memphis, TN at 7749 East Shelby Drive. Through the diligent efforts of the congregation, the ill-maintained and neglected property was cleared and prepared for development and future expansion. A newly constructed, beautiful 350-seat worship facility became the keystone of the property bearing its new name, Citadel of Deliverance. Pastor Dillard attributed the monumental church growth, first to the power of God and then a concerted effort at reaching the un-churched suburban Southeast population in a way that effectively communicates to today’s generation. The Citadel Church Family makes sure that every person who enters the doors feels welcomed and understands that whether they wear their best suits or their most comfortable jeans, they are truly in a place “Where Lives are Saved, Safeguarded, and Supported.”

Citadel of Deliverance Church has become the fastest growing church in the city of Memphis; reaching the suburban population in a way that effectively communicates to its multigenerational demographic. The current congregation is comprised of members from the Metropolitan Memphis and Northern Mississippi areas, with congregants who travel over 60 miles to attend multiple services each week. Countless others are reached through our televised services, webcasts, and various social media outlets. Members and visitors alike are drawn to the Ministry of Prayer, Healing, and Deliverance where the music is anointed and the worship experience is powerful. “The Citadel” is known as a friendly church where the messages are practical and applicable to everyday life. Anyone who has attended or even viewed a service can attest to the fact that the presence of the Lord is certainly manifest. Often visitors become family members or long-term friends of the ministry.

In the year 2020, through the successes of the Capital Campaign and Development Foundation of the Citadel of Deliverance Church, new property was identified and soon acquired. The expansion and relocation of Citadel from 7749 Shelby Drive East to 4350 Hacks Cross Road in Memphis, TN has been made a reality. With a cost of over $3 Million dollars, the new state of the art facility will house an Excellence Center, Day Care Center, Computer Training Lab, Health and Fitness Center, Gymnasium, Production Theatre and a Fellowship Center. The complex also has a central business office, ministry leader offices, conference rooms, classrooms, music rehearsal and assembly space and a technology production hub. The new worship facility will also serve as the Headquarters of the Tennessee Metropolitan Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ, where Bishop Linwood E. Dillard, Jr., is the Establishmentarian and Prelate. God continues to favor the Citadel of Deliverance Church of God in Christ congregation in its efforts to make a difference in the local and global community.
